Sainte-Justine Hospital announced the creation of a specialized facility to treat and prevent eating disorders among children and young mothers.
The goal is to decrease the length of hospital stays for eating disorders and prevent their development.
Sainte-Justine has seen a sharp increase in hospitalizations for eating disorders among people during the past four years. The number of hospitalizations per year increased from 83 to 120, the hospital said. Most of their patients come from outside Montreal.
The new facility will receive $500,000 from telecom giant Bell, which has focused its corporate philanthropy on mental health initiatives. On Wednesday, it will hold its annual Let’s Talk campaign, which encourages people to send text messages and tweets about mental health to raise funds.
